This dear little bear character needs very little introduction. The classic tale of Winnie the Pooh as told in this editon of 'House at Pooh Corner' by A.A. Milne, published in 1956. Illustrated throughout by E.H Shepherd with his unmistakeable characters of Pooh, Christopher Robin, Eeyore, Piglet, Rabbit and more. Hardback green linen binding with gold embossed characters of Christopher Robin and Pooh Bear. Lovely illustrated original endpapers. There is an inscription on the first fly endpaper written in ink. The binding itself is in fair condition with some wear to the spine on the inside of the back endpapers. Nice clean pages.

Wonderful vintage paperback edition of one of our all time favourite reads, "Love In A Cold Climate", by Nancy Mitford. A scarce Star Editions publication by Hamish Hamilton produced "to be sold on the Continent of Europe only". Book is in very good condition with a dustjacket in a protective plastic wrap. Wonderful and wickedly funny account of love amongst the aristocracy -  a perfect vintage read.

Just right to pop into your suitcase! "Fell Farm Holiday" and "Fell Farm Campers" by Marjorie Lloyd published by Puffin.  "Fell Farm Holiday" is a 1964 reprint (first published 1951) and "Fell Farm Campers" is a 1968 reprint (first published 1960). Both books are in good condition for age with beautiful covers. "Fell Farm Holiday" tells the story of the 5 Browne children off on holiday without their parents to the Lake District and all of their adventures.  In "Fell Farm Campers" (beautifully illustrated by Shirley Hughes) the Brownes return to camp in the same area with more adventures to keep you reading.  Jolly good holiday reads!

Written post-war it celebrates the beauty of the British countryside and encourages people to get out and discover it once again.  Chapters on Villages, castles, churches, landmarks, animal and plant life, curious customs and ceremonies (this is fascinating stuff), weather signs and planning your journey - camping, walking or cycling.  A lovely book about the countryside in the 1940s, lots of black and white photos and illustrations.  Book is in good condition for age, there is an inscription dated 1948 from previous owner on inside endpaper.  Delightful dustjacket which would make a great display book. Vintage Boys' hardback - "Boys' Book Of Stories", published by Dean and Son.  This is number 13 in the series of Dean's Everyday Story Books.  Wonderfully nostalgic stories with such titles as "A Question Of Nerve", "The Crackshot Mountie", "Heroes Not Permitted" and "Jealous Judd".  Black and white illustrations with lovely coloured board covers.  Covers are in overall good condition for age but there is some wear to spine with cracking at base and top. Oh Milly and Dottie are extremely partial to a jolly good mystery and there's lots of fun to be had along the way, if the mystery is written by Enid Blyton! "The Mystery Of The Missing Man", published by Methuen, first edition 1956. "This is the thirteenth adventure of the Five Find-Outers and Dog." Very sweet little book by Dorothy Borroughes, ' Captain Seal's Treasure Hunt", published by The Bodley Head, 1933, first edition.  Follow the adventures of Captain Seal, Mrs Woodpigeon, Mouse and all the other animals in this charming adventure story.  Pictorial board covers and charmingly illustrated in black and white by the author.  Covers are a little grubby due to age but internally bright.  Previous owner's name on inside front cover in ink.  Romance comes to St Trinian's, in the shape of a secondary School Inspector who's visit causes chaos and a love rivalry in this tale of school girl drama. Just one of Ronald Searle's wittily illustrated St Trinians chronicles. The full title of this hardback book published in 1952 is The Terror of St Trinian's -  For the first time the full sordid story by Timothy Shy and Ronald Searle. With original unclipped dustjacket. A jolly good read for gals! 1950s "Popular Stories For Girls" published by Birn, undated but has inscription on inside cover dated Xmas 1951. Book includes nine stories and two crossword puzzles (please note that these have been completed).  There is one colour plate and numerous black and white illustrations throughout.  Stories include such wonderful titles as "A Lobster For Louella!", "Wasps Sting, You Know!" smf "Doreen's Dilemma" - all sound a bit of a giggle to us! What could be more "perfick" for a Summer time read than the wonderful Darling Buds of May Triology by H E Bates.  Three wonderful books full of tales of the Larkin Family and all their exploits.  "The Darling Buds of May". " A Breath of French Air" and "When The Green Woods Laugh" make up the trilogy.  These are Book Club editions and were published in 1958, 1959 and 1960 respectively.  All books have dustjackets and are  in good condition for age, some foxing to  the back of dustjacket of "A Breath Of French Air" and a previous owner's name written in one.  Read more about Ma Larkin's fabulous feasts, Pa Larkin's dodgy dealings, Mariette and Charley's romance, and enjoy the beautiful countryside too - absolutely perfick!

Lovely Ladybird book, "In The Country With Uncle Mac", published in 1950s.  One of the rare Uncle Mac series.  Follow the adventures of Bob and Betty and their gorgeous dog Trigger, as they go on holiday in the country.  Each page is accompanied by a beautiful colour illustration, this is such a nostalgic book.  Book is in overall good condition for age, the contents are in good vintage condition, the board covers have some wear to base of spine in particular and at some point somebody has cut out the front end paper, not the title page.  Free from inscription and scribbles. Such a wonderful book, we do hope Trigger behaves himself...

Another gripping tale from the Biggles adventures by Capt. W.E. Johns. Our pilot hero Biggles, finds himself in the tropical swamps of Guiana where he takes possesssion of an amphibian aircraft, undertaking dangerous missions by air. Wonderful book entitled, "Practical Herb Growing", by D G Hewer.  First published in 1941, this is a 1946 reprint, published by G Bell & Sons. Written during war, the dustjacket has two very interesting photos of women on the land growing herbs.  This of course would have been at a time when men had been called up and the need for women to help in the war effort by digging for victory was at a premium. A practical guide to herb growing including chapters on herb cultivation, harvesting, drying of herbs and their uses. Dustjacket shows signs of its age as can be seen by photos, but this was printed on war economy paper.  The contents are in good condition. A great little 1940s gardening book.

Lovely 1940s Gardening Guide, "The Culture of Vegetables and Flowers". by Suttons, published by Simpkin Marshall.  This edition was published in 1942 and is the twentieth edition, so popular was it. Laurie Lee's hugely popular "Cider with Rosie".  Published 1959 by The Book Club.  An account of Lee's childhood in Gloucestershire after the First World War, telling the story of a traditional village, village life and the coming of change. The ABC of Cookery, published by H M Stationery Office for Ministry of Food in 1945.  It is not a recipe book but a fascinating insight into different ways of cooking, making the most of food during rationing and meal planning.  A sort of "Make Do and Mend" for the kitchen.  The need for eating healthily is of the utmost importance.  Tips and ideas for using dried ingredients, how to cook fish, vegetables, make cakes and pastry, the use of fresh and dried eggs. a fascinating glimpse of wartime Britain and the kitchen.  Highly collectible booklet in overall good condition for age, there is some loosening of contents from cover and the centre pages are detached.

The Last of Summer by Kate O"Brien published in 1944 by The Book Club. Set in 1939 in the last few summer days before the outset of the war in Ireland. How it Works: The Motor Car (1965) was used by Thames Valley police driving school as a general guide. Although out of print for some years, it is still asked for by some driving schools "Here is a book which all boys will find fascinating" was how Wills & Hepworth the publishers of this book  began to describe it.  Published in 1965 this book is one of the iconic ladybird books and was used by Thames Valley Police Driving School as a general guide! It's contents explain the basic principles of a motor car engine with clear colour illustrations and diagrams. An enchanting vintage hardback book 'A Pair of Red Polls' A Book for Girls by Mabel Quiller-Couch. With six illustrations by Hilda Cowham. Published by T.C & E.C Jack London. Wonderful decorative linen binding with pictorial boards and spine. There is a book plate on the inside of the front board 'London County Council'  'St Marylebone Central School' written in ink.. 'Awarded to' Brenda Poole' For General Proficiency. Dated July 14th 1911. And signed by the head teacher. Excellent condition throughout. They don't write them like this any more!

First edition of this extremely rare book by Cicely Englefield.  Published in 1958 by Evans Brothers.  Beautiful dustjacket by author, the famous writer and illustrator who wrote  many children's and nature books and illustrated many editions.  A gorgeous price clipped dustjacket with images of deer, hares and mice against an old grey wall.  Some wear to edges of jacket.  Fifteen delightful stories of the young creatures who live in the old grey wall. the stories are divided into seasons and there are tales for each of the four seasons, amongst them - Dawn Chorus, The Slow-worm that couldn't eat, What Happened to the Harvest Mice and Young Rabbit and the Weasel.  A lovely book. Measures approx 12cm x 19cm.

1953 edition of Six Tales of Sam Pig by Alison Uttley published by Faber & Faber, this is the sixth impression.  A collection of Alison Uttley's Sam Pig Tales.  Dustjacket is in a very sorry state and has tears to edges, spine and base of spine of jacket is missing as is an inch at back.  However, the illustrated board covers are in good condition with just some wear to top of spine (please see photos).  Dustjacket is not price clipped and has previous owner's name on inside end paper.   Illustrated by Francis Gower.

1954 edition of Gwen Raverat's "Period Piece", A Cambridge Childhood, published by Faber & Faber and Readers Union.  A delightful memoir of the author's childhood in Victorian Cambridge.  The granddaughter of Charles Darwin gives a funny, whimsical account of her upper-class upbringing amongst her large and talented family.  Accompanied by wonderful black and white illustrations by the artist author this is a fascinating book.  In good condition with an inscription on inside front cover by previous owner.

The Mysterious Mr Fairweather by Jessie Leckie Herbertson published by Thomas Nelson & Son.  Wonderful vintage children's mystery - bookish Edith and her cousin Peggy set out to foil the plans of the mysterious Mr Fairweather when a tin mine is discovered on their estate... Book has dustjacket that has not been price clipped.  Dust jacket has some wear to edges due to age with a tear to bottom front cover and top and small tear to back (please see photos).  However in overall good condition and with gorgeously bright images.  Previous owner has written name and small inscription on inside front cover"Happy Christmas Carol, Love Sandra".  Will those girls solve the mystery and discover the truth about Mr Fairweather? A delightful and rare illustrated hard cover book, illustrated by George  George Delaw, containing many French songs and rounds with piano scores by Gabriel Pierne. Preface by Madame Edmond Rostand. With well known songs such as Au Clair de la Lune and Frere Jacques. Hardcover pictorial boards in good condition other than slight damage to the front board in the right hand bottom corner. Mild creasing to the pages on bottom right corner but otherwise in good condition considering the age of the book. Ink inscription on front end-paper that reads 'Ella Rosling 17th September 1931'.  A wonderful book of French social history.
